Tips for Success

  • Know Your Limits & Pace Yourself

  • Wear the Right Gear
Sturdy hiking boots and grippy shoes are a must for navigating the steps. Pack water, snacks, and dress in layers—especially during summer or winter. If hiking in colder months, bring gloves and micro-spikes.

  • Hydrate & Know the Descent
Stay hydrated, and take advantage of the Barr Trail for a safer descent after reaching the top. Remember: descending on the Incline is prohibited for safety reasons.

A Piece of History

Originally a cable car route built to transport materials to Pikes Peak, the Incline was transformed into a popular trail after a rockslide closed the area in 1990. Locals repurposed the railway ties, and today it's a must-do challenge for adventurers.
